Unexcused Absences

Attendance Policy and Procedures

Because daily attendance has shown to positively impact student learning and we believe that being in class fosters a positive learning community, we set forward the following attendance procedures for unexcused absences:

First and foremost, there is a natural consequence of a lower grade in a course and in decreased learning opportunities when a student chooses not to attend class regularly. 

wStudents are required to have an admit slip, regardless of whether an absence is excused or unexcused, to return to class following an absence.

wA call by auto-dialer is a second intervention as this is considered communication with home.

wStudents receive at school a notice the day after their unexcused absence warning them that they need to excuse the absence (within 24 hours).

wLetter to go home at 3, 5 and 7 absences.

• Gentle reminders are sent home at 3 absences.
• Attendance forms at 5 unexcused absences are given to students in room 102/03.  Meetings are every other Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Students are to sign the form and return it to the attendance office with parent signature the following day.  Students will lose the privilege to park or may not gain it during their first semester of eligibility if they don’t show or don’t return the form with the parent signature.
• 7 unexcused: presentation in room 102-03 with parents present. Meetings are on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m.* Students will lose their parking privileges or may not gain it during their first semester eligibility.
