Unexcused Absences
Attendance Policy and Procedures
Because
daily attendance has shown to positively impact student learning and we believe
that being in class fosters a positive learning community, we set forward the
following attendance procedures for unexcused absences:
First
and foremost, there is a natural consequence of a lower grade in a course and in
decreased learning opportunities when a student chooses not to attend class
regularly.
wStudents are required to have an admit slip,
regardless of whether an absence is excused or unexcused, to return to class
following an absence.
wA call by auto-dialer is a second intervention as
this is considered communication with home.
wStudents receive at school a notice the day after
their unexcused absence warning them that they need to excuse the absence
(within 24 hours).
wLetter
to go home at 3, 5 and 7 absences.
wAppeals upon 11th with conditions set if
early in the semester
