Career Center News

SOPHOMORES VISIT THE CAREER CENTER!

During the week of February 11th all sophomores currently enrolled in Biology visited the Career Center. Here they explored our resources and learned about the programs and ways in which we can help them with their college and career planning. They also received a packet of resources, and were introduced to what they need to do to complete the sophomore requirement for their Culminating Project which is due at the beginning of June.  For those sophomores who do not have biology or a science class this year, a makeup session will be held in the Career Center on March 20 immediately after school to bring you up to date. Please email Mrs. Edgar at edgark@issaquah.wednet.edu to be sure you are on the list if you are one of these students.

SENIORS – IT’S TIME TO SIGN UP FOR EXIT INTERVIEWS!

For those seniors who did not complete their exit interviews in December, NOW is the time to come to the Career Center to sign up for the final part of your Culminating Project!  On Wednesday, April 2nd all remaining seniors will have their exit interviews. To schedule yours, you must (1) be CURRENT with your Culminating Project

(To check on your status see the posted lists outside the Counseling, Career Center and Administration offices), and (2) bring a copy of your RESUME to the Career Center at the time of sign up. You may sign up in the Career Center starting March 3 at the following times:  before school, during lunch hours and after school Monday - Thursday until 4 pm.

CAREER CENTER PRESENTATIONS:

By popular demand we will have an encore presentation later this Spring for those of you who missed the Career Center’s “College Workshop for Juniors” in February. A date has not yet been scheduled, so be sure to look for it on the website when one has been finalized. This is a good way to find out what you can do now and this summer to identify colleges of interest, conduct a successful college visit, develop strong essays and prepare some solid application materials for the important senior fall ahead.

If you are considering applying to the highly competitive colleges, don’t miss our next Career Center presentation “Tips for Applying to Highly Selective Colleges”. It will be held the evening of March 11th in Rooms 102-103. This is a good opportunity for you to learn more about how to be a strong candidate for these very rigorous schools.

Our final evening presentation for the year, “Summer Planning for Jobs, Internships and Academic Enrichment Opportunities” is scheduled for 7 pm on April 22nd. This program will help students to locate summer opportunities that will fit their interests and talents, and develop strong employment materials to help them get those summer jobs! All students and their parents are welcome to attend these presentations, and sophomores may use either of these remaining events to fulfill the sophomore requirement for their CEA ( Career Exploration Activity) due June 2nd. (See the Career Center website for updated information).

BCC COLLEGE TOUR FOR JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES:

Another way for you to learn about colleges of interest is to plan to attend the 2008 High School- College Tour. This event, which will feature admissions representatives from over 25 Washington state colleges, will be held on the BCC campus on March 27th.  Representatives will give presentations and be available to meet with high school juniors. This is a great way to differentiate between college programs and  to get a head start on your college planning! The Career Center has organized a field trip, including bus transportation, to this event.  Only the first 50 sophomores or juniors to sign up in the Career Center will be able to participate, so come on down ASAP!

PNACAC SPRING COLLEGE FAIR:

Annually, the Pacific Northwest Association for College Admissions Council (PNACAC) offers a Fall and Spring college fair in an effort to help students to become more familiar with colleges that might fit their needs. Over 150 colleges and universities from across the nation send admissions representatives and students from throughout the Puget Sound take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about a number of possible college “fits”. The Spring PNACAC Fair will be held on Saturday, March 15 from noon to 3 pm at the Connolly Center at Seattle University.
