The reading and writing WASLs are less
than one month away
(March 10th-13th), and the math and science WASLs two
months away (April 15th-18th). All sophomores and any
juniors or seniors who have not met standard have been automatically registered
to take the WASL. All sophomores and not-at-standard juniors and seniors will
arrive at school no later than 7:25 a.m. during WASL testing. All at-standard
students will arrive at approximately 10 a.m. The bell schedule will be posted
on Skyline’s website in March.
Other details
regarding the spring WASL participants are:
wAny sophomores who took the WASL as ninth
graders will not have to take any portion of the WASL they have already passed.
wJuniors who retook the WASL in August are
not required to take it again this spring, though are invited to do so.
wSeniors who retook the WASL in August are
strongly encouraged to take the WASL again this spring to take advantage of the
opportunity to earn a Certificate of Academic Achievement (CAA). (Although a
CAA is not required to graduate, this commendation is noted on transcripts.)
Juniors and
seniors who have not met standard, also have had WASL alternatives made
available to them.
wA handful of seniors this semester have
completed a Collection of Evidence (like a portfolio) for the math WASL with
the help of teachers Mat Taylor and Kerry Dunbar, during lunch or after school.
Several juniors have expressed interest in the Collection of Evidence. Sessions
will begin the week of February 11th.
wFive out-of-state transfer students have
applied for waivers based upon their scores from their state assessments (and are
invited to take the WASL in the spring to earn a Certificate of Academic
Achievement).
wNine juniors and seniors have applied to
meet standard using their PSAT, SAT or ACT scores.
wJuniors and seniors not at standard are
encouraged to take SATs and ACTs to attempt to meet standard via this option.
