Note: Most of these opportunities are from the summer of 2005 but are ongoing programs. 

Academic Enrichment:

Camps:

  • Summer Outdoor Adventure/Community Service Opportunities
  • JOURNALISM SUMMER WORKSHOP - At Seattle University, The Dow Jones Newspaper Fund along with other organizations sponsor with workshop.  A hands-on camp for 15 high school sophomores, juniors & seniors.  Usually 13 students write news articles and 2 for a photojournalism component.  All expenses are paid.  It runs June 20 - June 27, 2008.  College scholarships awarded to outstanding participants.  For more information contact Professor Guillen at Seattle U. at tomasg@seattleu.edu or visit the Journalism Workshop site at http://www.seattleu.edu/jsw  Applications must be postmarked by April 7, 2008.

Jobs:

  • JOB FAIR:  hosted by Aramark at the Woodland Park Zoo on March 14, 2008.  Looking to hire for food service.  Those hired to work the Easter holiday weekend & Spring Break are have the first opportunity to secure their job for summer.  If unable to attend the fair, applications are available at the West Entrance to the Zoo 7 days a week.  Please complete the application & return it to the same place.  Questions contact (206)632-9664.

  • TLC ACADEMY:  is hiring for Summer Camp Staff. Working with young children to serve as summer camp instructors.  Would be responsible for implementing activities and supervising children ages 3 to 8 years old.  An activity plan is provided, but would love someone creative.  Camp runs from 9am-3pm, June 30th - Aug. 22nd.  For more info. contact Christal at 425-868-1943 or by email christal@tlceducation.com  Must be 18 years old to apply.

  • ECOLOGY YOUTH CORP. - 2008 Summer Jobs:  Litter pick up along, hwys., roads and parks, recycling and edu. activities.  Work 37.5 hrs. per week, weekends, except July 4th, 7am - 2:30pm.  Salary: $8.07/hr.  Provide own transportation to a central gathering location.  Any teenager 14 - 17 yrs. old.  They limit youth to a single 4 week session.  Applications are due by April 8, 2008 and are available on-line at www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/swfa/eyc/nwro.html

Internships:

  • Community Service Internships through TEENS IN PUBLIC SERVICE: TIPS offers young leaders paid community service internships that link them to service while providing non-profits organizations with bright, reliable interns to help fill their workforce gaps.  TIPS teens serve Seattle's hungry and homeless, mentor disadvantaged children and open the eyes of at-risk youth to the power of art, culture and education.  They work to preserve the natural habitat of our region as well as bring joy to elderly, hospital patients and those with special needs.  Interns are exposed to the importance of service to their community.  Apply on-line at www.teensinpublicservice.org before April 11, 2008 or pick up an application in the Career Center.   • Microsoft's High School Internship Program in Redmond!  Summer work opportunity for high school juniors & seniors.  Applicants need to know how to e-mail and use Microsoft Office Word.  Have a basic grasp of HTML, Visual Basic or other programming languages (preferred).  Must be at least 16 yrs. old and a US citizen and available 40 hours per week for eight to ten consecutive weeks from June to Aug. 2008.  Interns will receive an hourly wage plus bus pass & software discounts.  For more information & applications come to the Career Center or go on-line at www.microsoft.com/college/highschool  Completed packets must be returned by March 7, 2008.  (1/22/08)
