VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES as of 6/2/08 ANIMALS: DOG WALKER: Local woman with visual impairment needs a volunteer helper interested in walking her companion dog. The dog is a cute shitzu poodle mix. Volunteers can schedule at their convenience with the hope that the dog would be walked a couple times each week. This volunteer opportunity is in city of Sammamish area. On April 26th the shifts are: 10am-1:00pm, 12:30pm-4:00pm, 10am-4:00pm, can work one or more shifts. Must be at least 14 yrs. old, dress to work outside with the public. SEATTLE HUMANE SOCIETY: Currently recruiting “First Impressions Volunteers” to man the phones and front reception desk at our administrative offices. Duties are to provide a welcoming first impression for callers and visitors. On the job training. Minimum 6 month commitment, one three hour shift per week. Several shifts available daily and coverage is needed M-Fri 8 am- 5:00 pm. CHARITY: National Charity League, Inc. (NCL), the oldest and largest mother-daughter volunteer organization in the nation provides opportunities to volunteer for local nonprofit agencies. NCL also provides leadership training, educational activities and cultural experiences. Eligibility to apply open through March 2009. Must provide own transportation to and from Sunset. We are flexible on hours, thinking after high school gets out, for 1-2 hours M, T, Thurs, and/or Fri. If you have a free period in the am from 8:30 am on, that would work too. Need 1 or 2 people at a time. The center, located off Maple Street in Issaquah, uses volunteers to fill order bags of clothing and sort new donations. Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate. MAP participants complete a 12 hr training course on exhibit design, presentation techniques and aviation history and then have the opportunity to show what they know to museum goers and other audiences in very creative ways.
