Intro: Teaching and Science have always been a part of my life, so to become a science teacher seemed like the most natural path to take in life. I have always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with other people, especially about topics I am really interested in myself. I first really became passionate about pursuing teaching as a career when I was in high school. My 8th grade science teacher did a phenomenal job of making science especially interesting for me; my senior calculus teacher specifically picked me out of the class to do some peer-teaching of a unit for my class. As a result, I became even more confident about my career choice. I have thoroughly enjoyed my teaching career so far--all the ups and even the downs have made every year memorable. I'm looking forward to many more years in this wonderful career! Background on Me: I grew up in a small town in Minnesota, right along the Mississippi River. I attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Secondary Education with majors in Earth Science Education and Physics/Chemistry Education. I taught 9th grade Physical Science for my first year out of college at a junior high school in Forest Lake, Minnesota. After being bumped from my position because of a decrease in science positions available, I began my search for a new job. I found myself drawn to the Pacific Northwest and made the biggest move of my life. This is my 10th year of teaching here at Skyline. I have taught 9th grade physical science, and am currently teaching physics and IB physics. I am currently the advisor for both Skyline Physics Club and Key Club. |
