The Skyline staff is devoted to the success of all the students. Each staff member brings to the students their unique talents and experiences which enhance the classroom curriculum. Mary A. Sullivan is the classroom teacher. Mary has been a teacher for 23 years; teaching in Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio. Having moved here two years ago, she brings her past experiences as secondary classroom teacher, work study coordinator, and Special Services Director to the classroom; combining academics with adult living skills. She uses a hands-on approach along with repeat and review, practice, and manipulatives in order to teach academics and adult living skills. Her philosophy is that all children can learn. She feels it is important to present each child just enough challenge so they can continue to grow - yet see success. Delilah Calderon-Buck, Educational Assistant, has been with the Issaquah School District since 1996 in various positions. She assists in reaching annual academic goals for each individual student, increasing their social skills, and helping to nurture their well-being. Her desire to help students has come from a long history of helping children develop leadership skills in extracurricular activities, finding their own creativity through arts & crafts, and encouraging students to enhance their community awareness through volunteerism and community service. Kathi Eide, Educational Assistant, has been with the Issaquah School District for six years. This is her first year at Skyline High School. Previously, she was at Endeavor Elementary School. She enjoys working with the students in activities such as cooking (she is the classroom "Head Chef"), gardening/grounds keeping, reading, and "organizing". Her expertise with various adult living situations has helped the students learn. Go Green Team! Dennis Kizanis, Educational Assistant and "resident musician", is a first-year Issaquah School District employee. He assists with reading, math, and a variety of classroom projects. He and another classroom assistant run the "Boy's Group" in which they discuss various topics such as behavior, manners, sports, family, and friends. Music class is held each week. In music class he brings his guitar and the students sing. He was responsible for writing the music to the song the students wrote called "Good Friends". His previous experience was teaching teens how to play the guitar at the Kirkland Teen Center. Lara Collis, Behavior Intervention Trainer, has been with the Issaquah School District for two years. She worked in various capacities and school settings. In the past she has worked in education, leadership, management, and various non-profit organizations. Her interests in travel, music, cooking, cross-cultural communication, psychology, and empowering others have been an asset to the classroom in the development of each student. Leroy Maxwell, Behavior Intervention Trainer, has worked for four years in the Issaquah School District. This is his first year at Skyline High School. In his position he works with students who have unique behavior/learning needs and assists the teachers working with those students. This year he is also setting up new educational software and computer hardware for the classroom. These materials were secured from money received from grants which he wrote last year. He conducts the "Boy's Group" along with another Educational Assistant. Nancy Sellars is our Speech-Language Pathologist. She has worked in three different school districts; Central Kitsap, Highline, and Issaquah. This year she works at Skyline High School and Sunny Hills Elementary School. She enjoys the variety that working with elementary and secondary students provides. She feels that appropriate communication skills for students of all ages are critical to social, academic and vocational successes. Jeannine "Jeannie" Anstiss is the Occupational Therapist. She moved here this past summer from Tacoma, Washington. She has worked in Washington state school districts since 1997. Jeannie works two days in the school district and three days in a geriatric (nursing home) setting. She feels that this is a good balance, but she enjoys working with the students as they give her inspiration. She feels that the children's growth and adaptability is amazing and that teachers and therapists do make a difference. Janeen Arnold is the Physical Therapist. She has worked for NW Pediatric Therapy for three and a half years. This is her second year with the Issaquah School District working with students in grades K to 12. Kate Widtfeldt is the district Educational Audiologist. Judie Dauphiny is the School Psychologist for Skyline High School. Susan Wolever is the Secondary Supervisor of Special Services for the Issaquah School District. She is in charge of the supervision of all secondary programs for students with unique learning needs. She reviews IEP's and class curriculum. She also provides technical support and consults with staff for general classroom issues and specific student concerns. Susan's educational background includes experience as a teacher, school psychologist, and administrator. Susan Morrison is the Transition Coordinator and Department Head. She has worked for the past seven years at Skyline High School as Transition Coordinator. Her main responsibility is to provide assistance to students and staff with the transition process. She provides assistance with vocational evaluations, post-secondary career planning, employability training, connections to appropriate adult agencies, outreach activities, and apprenticeship programs. Rich Korb is a Resource Room Teacher for World History and World Cultures. He modifies assignments for students while offering them a chance to be included in class discussions and lectures. He stated that the students demonstrate a high interest in learning about world history and cultures. Rich feels that each student brings a valuable dimension to the class. He also teaches a resource Learning Strategies class. Oswald Forster teaches Resource Room English, U.S. History, and Learning Strategies. Julie Becklund is a Resource Room Teacher for English and is also Department Head. Matt Taylor teaches Resource Room Practical Math, Functional Math, Pre-Foundations Math, and Learning Strategies. |
